Durable VOD archive storage
The stream is over; the recording is the asset. VOD archive storage is the durable home for that finished file — the exported broadcast, the webinar replay, the course recording, the event capture — kept on a permanent URL and served from a global CDN. files.link is built for exactly this back half of the job: you bring the rendered VOD, and it stores the original file untouched and hands you a stable link you can embed, share, or gate.
It is not a live ingest endpoint or a transcoding service; it is where your stream archives live after the broadcast ends.
The upload path is a scriptable three-call REST flow: POST /v1/files/{folderId} returns a presigned url and an id, you PUT the recording bytes straight to storage, then POST /v1/files/confirm-upload with {ids:[...]}. Auth is just your raw API key, so a post-stream hook can push every new replay into your archive the moment encoding finishes — turning stream archive hosting into one curl in your pipeline instead of a manual upload.
The reason to move a VOD library off the streaming platform is cost and permanence. Twitch and most live platforms expire VODs within weeks; a copy here stays until you delete it. Per-minute video products (Mux-style) meter every minute you store and every minute delivered, which punishes a deep long-tail library — the exact thing a livestream archive becomes over time. files.link bills prepaid credits against storage and bandwidth with no per-minute meter, and replays stream from a nearby CDN edge.
Keep this month's busy replays on the standard tier for instant playback, then move rarely-watched back catalog to the cold storage tier (note its minimum retention) to shrink the bill on archives nobody is actively watching.
This page is the storage-and-delivery layer, not a player or an encoder. For adaptive quality switching, transcode to HLS/DASH with ffmpeg first and upload the playlist and segments as ordinary files; for a single progressive MP4 replay, upload it once and embed the URL. Private replays — paid courses, members-only events — live as private files behind short-lived signed URLs your backend mints per viewer.
If your job is specifically retaining finished broadcasts, the closely related live stream archive page covers the same workflow from the broadcast angle; this page frames it as general VOD archive storage for any replay source.
A word on scope and honesty. files.link is neutral storage infrastructure for recordings you own or are authorized to keep — your own streams, your team's events, talks and clips you hold the rights to. It is not the old StreamArchive-style scraper that grabbed other broadcasters' deleted VODs without consent, it has no connection to any third-party streamarchive or CastCache service, and it never pulls streams from any platform on your behalf.
You export the finished file yourself; files.link gives that authorized stream archive a permanent, CDN-backed home. If you arrived from a defunct streamarchive tool looking for a real place to keep stream archives you have rights to, that storage job is exactly what this page describes.
