YAML Paste

YAML's entire meaning lives in its whitespace, which makes it the worst possible language to paste into a tool that reflows text. A two-space indent that becomes a tab, a trailing space that turns a scalar into something else, a chat client that strips leading whitespace — any of these silently changes what your config does, and the person you sent it to debugs a problem that only exists because the message broke the file. files.link stores your YAML byte-for-byte and renders it with highlight.js, so keys, string values, booleans, anchors (&), aliases (*), and multi-line block scalars (| and >) all keep their exact indentation and pick up proper coloring.

The configs people actually share are the ones where a single misaligned line is a production incident: a Kubernetes Deployment whose resources block is nested one level wrong, a GitHub Actions workflow where a steps list lost its indent, a docker-compose service that quietly merged into the wrong key, a Helm values.yaml someone needs to review. On a paste page each of those reads as a clean, copyable block — the reviewer can select it and paste it straight into their editor knowing the whitespace is the same whitespace you saw.

Because manifests routinely contain secrets, image registries, internal hostnames, or environment-specific values, treat sensitive YAML like the perishable thing it is: as an anonymous paste it auto-deletes after 24 hours, and signed in you can set a one-hour expiry so a config you're debugging in a call disappears right after. For genuinely secret material a private paste link keeps it out of public reach entirely.

Anonymous pastes hold 100KB; signing in raises that to 1MB and unlocks expiry from one hour to permanent for configs you want to keep referencing.

GitHub Gist works but forces a login to publish; a Slack snippet can't be opened by anyone outside the workspace and is gone once it scrolls away. A paste link is openable by anyone you send it to, renders the YAML faithfully, and — crucially for a whitespace-defined format — hands back exactly what you put in.
